An IB-40 heritage lover who mapped her hometown's ancient villages with GIS — and earned Princeton in the regular round.
Student Background
An international-school student in China with an IB of 40, devoted to cultural heritage and self-taught in GIS — but her activities were mostly “visits plus reports” with no real breakthrough.
The Challenge
Humanities applications can drift into the abstract. How could a technical tool like GIS give her a differentiated edge — when her IB was not outstanding among Princeton applicants?
Mentor Strategy
A signature project
we guided her to map her hometown’s ancient villages with GIS — dating buildings, documenting preservation status, and building a “digital cultural-heritage map” with a local museum exhibition and media coverage. Interest became in-place research.
Essays and fit
we leaned into Princeton’s strength at the intersection of humanities and technology. Her essays paired “The Peach Blossom Spring” with GIS to ask how tradition and modern preservation can talk to each other. She also added a policy-analysis paper on heritage protection.
The result
admitted in the regular round to Princeton, with an admissions reader noting how she “rebuilt humanistic research with an unusual tool, showing curiosity and initiative.”
The Result
Admitted (RD) to Princeton University

Student Voice
“Thank you to every mentor at IVY Club! I only had scattered research notes before. You helped me turn an interest into a complete, in-place project — and pointed me at the right direction. I am deeply grateful.”
